The Good Daughter: A Brennan Sisters Novel
Responsibility is a duty that Kit Brennan takes seriously. Extremely seriously. As a Catholic school English teacher, she puts the needs of her students first. As a good Catholic girl, she always follows the rules. She caters to her female friends, and when family members need her, she is always there to pick up the slack and smooth troubled waters. It’s just what she does.
“While some readers may grow frustrated with Kit’s continued ability to put her needs last, others will applaud her selfless love for those around her. No matter which side of the fence you’re on, you’ll still want to see Kit find the happiness and satisfaction that she so richly deserves after many years of serving others.”
Unfortunately, the non-stop responsibility is beginning to take its toll on her. As Kit approaches her 40th birthday, she wonders when, if ever, it will be her turn. She dreams of a husband and babies of her own, yet with no man in sight, that dream seems to be one that may disappear as quickly and easily as the morning mist. She certainly doesn’t want to be a martyr, but still she doesn’t want to turn her back on those closest to her either.
When Kit takes a much-needed break and heads out for a long weekend, she meets a man, Jude Knight, who makes her question her lifestyle and her selfless devotion to others. This is NOT a man she could take home to meet her straight-laced family. In fact, she’s not even sure he’s safe to be around. He is, however, a man who makes her pulse race and who fills her head with naughty thoughts the likes of which she has never had. Newly freed from an unsatisfactory relationship that lasted a decade, Kit is ready for passion.
As Kit struggles to deal with her mother’s poor health, her brother and sister-in-law’s struggles with infertility, her friend’s marriage troubles, and a student who is obviously in crisis, her path crosses Jude’s time and time again. Is fate trying to tell her something?
However much Kit wants Jude, she resists what her heart is telling her. How could this temptingly tasty, tattooed man ever fit into her life? From his motorcycle to his leather jacket, Jude is not part of what she has envisioned for herself. Perhaps it’s time for her vision to change.
THE GOOD DAUGHTER, the second installment in Jane Porter’s Brennan Sisters trilogy (following THE GOOD WOMAN), is not for the faint of heart. Tough situations involving family dynamics, the inevitable death of a loved one, and domestic and sexual abuse are just some of the topics that are addressed in these pages. Without the inherent trials, though, Kit’s decisions regarding her future would not climb to the high-stakes pitch that they do.
While some readers may grow frustrated with Kit’s continued ability to put her needs last, others will applaud her selfless love for those around her. No matter which side of the fence you’re on, you’ll still want to see Kit find the happiness and satisfaction that she so richly deserves after many years of serving others.
